Job Summary
ERP International is seeking a highly skilled Ophthalmology Technician to support the Ophthalmology Department at a prestigious medical center. As a key member of our team, you will assist optometrists and ophthalmologists in providing exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities
- Obtain patient histories, perform prescription verification, and maintain accurate records.
- Assist in testing patient vision, including far and near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception.
- Examine the eye using a slit lamp to detect abnormalities in the cornea and anterior and posterior chambers.
- Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes, and measure intraocular pressure.
- Test field of vision, including central and peripheral vision, and chart test results on graph paper.
- Measure axial length of the eye using ultrasound equipment, and instruct patients on eye care and contact lens handling.
- Perform basic diagnostic tests, including ocular coherence tomography (OCT), fundus cameras, fluorescein angiography, and visual field tests.
- Assist in minor procedure rooms and operating rooms, and perform basic administrative tasks, including coding assistance and communication with patients.
Requirements
- Education: Certificate in Ophthalmology Technician or Optometric Technician course.
- Experience: One year of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician/Technologist after graduation.
- Certification: Possess and maintain current certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology.
- Life Support Certifications: Possess a current AHA or ARC BLS certification.
- Security: Must possess the ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
