Fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment using a variety of tools and techniques. Welders produce metal products according to customer or employer specifications, using multiple welding machines to repair and maintain metal equipment and structures of various sizes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reading and interpreting diagrams, sketches, and blueprints to determine operations, required materials, and time frames for projects
  • Determining the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
  • Setting up components for welding according to specifications
  • Operating angle grinders to prepare parts for welding
  • Aligning components using calipers, rulers, etc., and clamping pieces
  • Welding components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions
  • Repairing machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
  • Testing and inspecting welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws
  • Maintaining equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
