Job Title: ARI Reading Intervention Specialist

The Alabama Department of Education is seeking a highly qualified ARI Reading Intervention Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our education team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that all students are reading on or above grade level by the end of third grade.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in all scheduled Multisensory Language Education (MSLE) training sessions associated with CALT training, which may include in-state travel.
  • Administer universal reading screeners to all students and participate on the Problem-Solving Team (PST) for students identified by the universal screener as having a reading deficit.
  • Develop Student Reading Improvement Plans (SRIP) and/or Response to Intervention (RtI) plans when appropriate according to the ALA and PST Manual.
  • Administer reading assessments to identify students with the characteristics of dyslexia and deliver prescriptive, explicit, systematic, structured, multi-sensory language instruction to students requiring dyslexia-specific intervention.
  • Collaborate with classroom reading teachers and/or local reading specialists to ensure consistency in the use of reading strategies utilized during intervention and in the classroom.
  • Provide support and instruction in Structured Literacy through analyzing data, lesson protocols, planning, and the implementation of routines and procedures.
  • Stay abreast of monitoring, according to the program being administered, the reading progress of current students receiving dyslexia-specific intervention.
  • Make recommendations for the potential adjustment of instruction according to student-specific needs identified from progress monitoring.
  • Agree to serve as a teacher for summer reading camp providing reading intervention to students, assisting in collecting reading data, and working to communicate data to ARI.

This is a grant-funded, nine-month teaching position following the Alabama Teacher Salary Scale. The ideal candidate will have a master's degree and Mastery Status in LETRS Early Childhood and/or LETRS K-12, as well as a minimum of three years of successful teaching of reading or content areas and good classroom management.
