Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Precision CNC Machinist is responsible for producing tungsten carbide and composite rolls through the programming, setup, and operation of CNC machines as well as manual machinery. This role involves maintaining high standards of quality and safety, keeping accurate records, and ensuring equipment and supplies are well-maintained. The machinist exercises independent judgment to apply procedures and practices to various work situations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Troubleshoot issues as they arise;
  • Produce components with tight tolerances;
  • Conduct non-routine maintenance and repairs on machine tools, including lubrication and cleaning;
  • Select appropriate cutting tools and adjust machine feeds and speeds as necessary;
  • Utilize industry-standard measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and snap gauges;
  • Perform initial part inspections and ongoing quality checks;
  • Identify root causes of quality issues and implement corrective actions;
  • Report any defective equipment or materials to the supervisor;
  • Assist in training operators on part loading, program verification, machine operation, and quality inspection;
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area (5S) and perform basic preventative maintenance;
  • Adhere to all relevant state and federal laws, company quality programs, and safety regulations;
  • Demonstrate proficiency in advanced G Code programming and basic MasterCam Software;
  • Adapt to changing work environments and manage competing demands effectively;
  • Be flexible with work shifts and schedules;
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by supervisors or management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints;
  • Understanding of geometric tolerances and true position;
  • Proficient in using measurement tools;
  • Efficiently complete machining projects;
  • Knowledge of CNC equipment capabilities and maintenance;
  • Competence in mid-level mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals);
  • Ability to follow directions from supervisors;
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Adaptability to change;
  • Ability to handle constructive criticism and manage stress;
  • Strong interpersonal skills for teamwork and diverse communication styles;
  • Willingness to embrace new responsibilities;
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and punctuality.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and understand work instructions in English;
  • Follow written procedures in English;
  • Interpret safety rules and procedure manuals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of CNC machining experience or equivalent education/experience;
  • Technical degree in Machine Tool Technology is preferred but not mandatory.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The role requires the ability to meet the physical demands of the job, which may include:

  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs;
  • Working in an indoor manufacturing environment;
  • Exposure to various metals and occasional chemicals;
  • Standing and walking throughout the workday;
  • Working in moderate noise levels;
  • Frequent hand and arm movements, and repetitive motions;
  • Wearing industry-standard safety equipment.
