Job Overview

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark is seeking a qualified Immigration Staff Attorney to manage a caseload of defensive and affirmative matters, assist with legal orientation programming, and provide direct representation for non-detained individuals.

Job Description
  • Conduct client interviews and research legal issues
  • Determine and implement legal strategy
  • Draft court filings, including pleadings, motions, and briefs
  • Draft applications for immigration benefits
  • Appear in immigration court and family court
  • Appear for USCIS benefits interviews

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of immigration law and be able to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely. The position requires proficiency in multiple languages, with Spanish, French, Haitian Creole, or Portuguese being preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of defensive and affirmative matters
  • Assist with legal orientation programming
  • Provide direct representation for non-detained individuals
  • Research legal issues and determine legal strategy
  • Draft court filings and applications
  • Apear in court and interview clients
Requirements
  • J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
  • Admission to practice law in New Jersey
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Proficiency in multiple languages (Spanish, French, Haitian Creole, or Portuguese preferred)
