Job Description:

We are seeking a seasoned attorney to join our Litigation Section in the Corporate Law Department at State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company. As a Litigation In-House Counsel, you will play a crucial role in supervising litigation brought against State Farm entities and/or handling discovery issues.

About the Role:

This hybrid role requires working hours in the office and virtually. The primary focus of this position is to develop budgets for litigation matters and related projects, provide legal advice to State Farm representatives, analyze complex legal problems, and interpret laws and regulations.

Responsibilities:
  • Formulate litigation strategies with outside counsel for bad faith, class action, and various other types of litigation
  • Assist in trial preparation and prepare company witnesses for depositions and testimony
  • Attend trials and provide trial reports to relevant business units, Law Department management, and colleagues
  • Develop and execute discovery strategies
  • Analyze legal matters and identify creative ways to resolve them
  • Serve as a resource for the organization on complex issues
  • Collaborate with other areas across the Corporate Law Department to manage legal risk

Requirements:
  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Active law license to practice law in at least one state
  • At least 5 years of litigation experience
  • Leadership and management skills
  • Advanced knowledge of legal principles and practices related to litigation
