Compensation Package

We offer a competitive salary package, with an estimated annual salary of $55,000 to $70,000, depending on experience. Additionally, we provide excellent benefits, including health, vision, dental, employer-paid life insurance, long-term disability, a retirement pension, 11 holidays, 1 personal holiday, vacation time, paid sick time, a deferred compensation plan, employee assistance, tuition assistance, optional identity theft insurance, and a discounted fitness membership.

Job Description

This exciting opportunity is for a Recreation Specialist - Health and Fitness to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a crucial role in planning and implementing recreational activities and programs that promote health and wellness in the community.

Main Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, and supervise a variety of recreational activities and programs in the health and fitness area.
  • Hire, train, schedule, evaluate, and supervise part-time personnel.
  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting visitors, answering telephone calls, and responding to inquiries.
  • Research, gather data, and prepare reports to support program development and evaluation.
  • Enter and maintain program participant data and files.
  • Register program or class participants.
  • Supervise the operations of the recreation complex when assigned.
  • Serve as a liaison to community organizations, schools, and external service providers.
  • Order and purchase supplies and equipment for specific programs.
  • Respond to and resolve customer complaints and concerns.
  • Assist in the development and administration of assigned budgets.
  • Develop bids for all program-related items and assist in bid development for capital equipment as needed.
  • Develop and distribute manuals, rules, announcements, and flyers.
  • Transport groups and individuals to and from events, as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Knowledge of recreation program development and implementation.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of the management of recreation facilities and equipment.
  • Knowledge of city policies and procedures, including purchasing and budgeting procedures.
  • Skill in the supervision of personnel.
  • Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer, calculator, copier, and facsimile machine.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to three years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Missouri for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain certification in CPR.
  • Certified Parks and Recreation professional preferred.
