About the Role

Duke University Health System is seeking a skilled Financial Care Counselor to join our Patient Revenue Management Organization. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of patient accounts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze insurance coverage and benefits to ensure timely processing of patient accounts.
  • Obtain authorizations and document billing information in our system.
  • Explain bills and provide assistance to patients and visitors.
  • Calculate and apply credits and collections in accordance with PRMO policies.
  • Implement cash payment options and reconcile daily third-party sponsorship.
  • Obtain prior authorization certifications and facilitate payment sources for uninsured patients.
  • Resolve insurance claim rejections and denials in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate diagnoses to ensure compliance with Local Medicare Review Policy.
  • Perform various duties to ensure accurate and efficient processing of patient accounts.
Requirements
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of compliance principles and regulatory agencies.
  • Two years of experience in hospital service access, clinical service access, physician office, or billing and collections.
  • Associate's degree in a healthcare-related field and one year of experience working with the public.
  • Bachelor's degree and one year of experience working with the public.
