Business Development Underwriter Leader

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Business Development Underwriter to lead our commercial lines underwriting team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned professional to drive business growth, develop and maintain key relationships with agents, and oversee the execution of marketing strategies to expand new and renewal business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and grow a significant book of business by identifying and pursuing new opportunities
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with retail insurance brokers and agents to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions
- Develop and execute comprehensive marketing plans to increase new business and improve retention rates
- Lead the underwriting team in evaluating complex risks, determining acceptability, coverage, and pricing for large or complex renewals and new business
- Collaborate with company brokerage facilities and Burns & Wilcox management to ensure seamless referrals and decision-making processes
- Analyze key metrics to inform data-driven decisions and implement corrective actions to optimize business performance
- Mentor and develop Assistant and Associate Underwriters to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their roles
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 3 years of commercial lines underwriting or brokerage experience, with a preference for excess & surplus experience
- Demonstrated expertise in sales and marketing, with a proven track record of driving business growth and development
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
- Strong interest in continued education and professional development, with a desire to stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices
- Insurance license, CPCU, CIC, or comparable designations are preferred
Compensation Package:
- A competitive base compensation package, including a salary of $90,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on experience
