About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Public Health Software Developer to join our team in Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in advancing our mission by developing and maintaining software applications that support public health initiatives.

This role is aligned with the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), a federally funded program aimed at helping public health agencies improve their information systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated software solutions that address public health needs effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Software Development: Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software applications using various programming languages and development frameworks.
  • Collaboration: Participate in agile development processes, sprint planning, and team meetings to prioritize tasks and track progress.
  • Problem-Solving: Analyze complex technical requirements and translate them into scalable software solutions.
  • Communication: Convey technical concepts to non-technical partners effectively and provide guidance on new tools, frameworks, and technologies.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough testing of software applications to identify and resolve bugs, performance issues, and other software defects.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physical Science, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience. Six years of experience in web application development, including versioning and revision control practices, preferred.
  • Prior experience or knowledge of data engineering languages/processes/frameworks a plus.
  • Experience and proficiency in programming languages such as PHP, JavaScript, Python.
  • Experience with software development frameworks and libraries, e.g., Laravel, Node.js.
  • Experience with AWS tools and DevOps functions.
  • Experience and proficiency in web development, relational databases, and using Unix-like operating systems.
  • Knowledge of database management systems, e.g., SQL, and version control tools, e.g., Git.
