Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Hospital Inpatient Coder to join our team. As a key member of our coding department, you will extract data from patient encounters to ensure the accuracy of DRGs. Your responsibilities will include:
- Using clinical coding knowledge based on Official Coding Conventions guidelines and AHA Coding Clinic to assign ICD-9 and/or ICD-10 codes with the highest level of accuracy.
- Collaborating closely with physicians, clinical documentation improvement specialists, quality, and patient finance staff.
- Playing a pivotal role in billing, research, internal and external reporting, and regulatory compliance.
Your success in this role will ensure accurate data for patient acuity, severity of illness, and quality outcomes. You will facilitate accurate extraction of core data into our HIM abstracting system to the data warehouse repository.
Required Skills and QualificationsTo be successful in this role, you must have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Five years of inpatient and outpatient coding experience in an acute care environment.
- A strong understanding of MS-DRGs, disease process, clinical pharmacology, anatomy, and physiology.
You will also need to complete a coding proficiency evaluation.
