Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Nephrologist/Critical Care Physician to join our team at the Department of Internal Medicine, Virginia Commonwealth University. The selected candidate will contribute to our educational and clinical activities, providing compassionate, efficient, high-quality consultative patient care in outpatient and inpatient settings. They will also support the research goals of the divisions and department.
Responsibilities:
- Teach fellows, residents, and medical students using adult teaching methods to enhance and encourage active learning and ongoing professional development.
- Contribute to clinical and administrative research, according to skills, interest, and funding, with opportunities to participate in performance improvement initiatives or formal extramurally funded investigations.
- Work with institutional staff and administration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU Health System, including patient safety, patient satisfaction, maintenance and enhancement of public perception, and fiscal health.
- Provide consultative patient care in outpatient and inpatient settings, including inpatient nephrology consults with a focus on patients with liver disease, inpatient and outpatient dialysis, and inpatient critical care rotations.
- Comply with all institutional policies for professional work, including credentialing, documentation, billing, and work effectively with other members of the extended interprofessional team.
Requirements:
- Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine and Nephrology and completion of accredited fellowship in General Nephrology.
- Direct experience managing complex inpatients and outpatients, and an interest in academic work, including teaching, professional development, and quality improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team and effectively communicate in both verbal and written formats.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
