About the Role:

The Ophthalmology Specialist will be part of the Ophthalmology department, providing specialized ophthalmic expertise within a multi-disciplinary team. The primary role is to evaluate patients for ocular conditions that may be attributable to military service.

The ideal candidate will be a medical doctor or osteopathic doctor with a medical degree in Ophthalmology and licensed to practice Ophthalmology in the US, home country, or country of practice. They should have experience with adult patients, expert working knowledge of the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye, and excellent IT skills including the use of electronic medical records systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide routine care such as vision testing and evaluation of visual conditions.
  • Provide ophthalmic consultation to other medical doctors.
  • Refer patients for more specialized evaluation if required for proper evaluation.
  • Diagnose ocular diseases and injuries.
  • Liaise with other medical staff to ensure continuity of care.
  • Educate patients about eye conditions and treatment plans.
  • Ensure that all medical records are correct and maintained.
  • Provision of clinical reporting into Project Medical Director.
  • Support clinical mentoring for staff development.
  • Ensure best practice in line with clinical guidelines and SOPs.
  • Support the clinical excellence framework under direction from the Project Medical Director.
  • Provide liaison with external agencies where required to maintain continuity of care and professional referral/patient handover.

Compliance and Governance:

The Ophthalmology Specialist must comply with health and safety standards consistent with the requirement to follow such procedures and regulations as may be laid down by the company, its client, or the host state. This includes prohibition of the abuse of alcohol and narcotics or intoxicating substances, fire response drills, personal and catering hygiene, and absolute familiarity with and compliance with company policies and such procedures that are pertinent to the role and to good clinical care.

The Ophthalmology Specialist must also understand their professional, legal, and ethical responsibilities, including maintaining and improving clinical quality through audit and quality improvement activity, safe and appropriate use of medication, and clinical governance. They must comply with rules requiring personnel to reject bribery and corruption laid down by the company, its client, host state, or international laws.
