Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at Children's National Hospital. As a PRN position, you will have the opportunity to work with a variety of clients and provide high-quality care in a home and community environment.

Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse will perform nursing care activities for clients as assigned, contributing to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of client care. This role requires a minimum of 1 year of nursing experience, with 1 year of home care/pediatric experience preferred.

Responsibilities:
  • Safeguard the rights of clients and protect all client information in a confidential manner.
  • Complete client assessment and clinical notes, including vitals, and submit them in accordance with agency policy.
  • Ensure proper use of electronic devices and maintain entries that are confidential.
  • Plan and provide care according to the client's age and document all activities.
  • Document client education throughout the client chart and refer to other services as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of Home Chart contents and use them for education.
  • Identify and prioritize problems/nursing care needs and meet client needs as assigned.
  • Encourage client/family participation in health care planning and case conferences.
  • Provide health-related client-focused education.
  • Administer medications correctly and document them.
  • Identify and address safety and environmental concerns in the home, following agency policy and procedures.
  • Respond to emergency needs without delay and be able to dial 911.
  • Complete charts, ensuring they are descriptive and appropriately signed.
  • Consult with nursing supervisors and other appropriate persons when needed.
  • Carry out physician orders on the plan of care.
  • Maintain a positive, courteous attitude with physicians to promote a good relationship with clients, physicians, and nursing staff.
  • Exhibit a cooperative attitude with fellow workers.
  • Communicate client needs and condition changes to appropriate persons.
  • Maintain timely, complete, concise, accurate, and legible documentation in all records and reports.
  • Report problems promptly to appropriate persons.
  • Report unsafe nursing practices and irregularities in compliance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures.
  • Cooperate with and adapt to planned and unplanned changes in agency operations.
  • Report to supervisors each work day, per agency policy.
  • Assist with learning experiences for new HHA Aides and take responsibility for client welfare.
  • Maintain equipment in good condition and properly store it.
  • Stock and maintain nursing bags.
  • Complete incident reports accurately and promptly.
  • Enter all charges appropriately on charge sheets and charge them out accordingly.
  • Follow all established policies and procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings and document attendance.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities in the area of assignment.
  • Perform other duties as required or as responsibilities necessitate.
  • Carry out interagency assignments and communications, maintaining good rapport.
  • Assist with suggestions to improve the Quality and Safety Committee objectives.
  • Attend all required in-service programs, multidisciplinary team meetings, and document attendance.
  • Conduct oneself in a manner that promotes positive relationships and teamwork among employees and between agencies.
  • Utilize proper personal protective equipment, such as gowns, gloves, eyewear, face shields, etc.
  • Be responsible and accountable for one's own clinical practice.
  • Complete and maintain skills according to Home Care regulations.
  • Be available for supervisory visits.
  • Meet work output expectations.
  • Be dependable and able to be relied upon to fill responsibilities and commitments.
  • Adhere to visit schedules.
  • Act upon one's own initiative to perform an acceptable range of duties, exhibiting resourcefulness in overcoming obstacles.
  • Respond or conform to changing, new, or unexpected situations.
  • Make reasonable decisions in normal situations, with reliable judgment.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience.
  • 1 year of home care/pediatric experience preferred.
  • Computer literacy required.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse in District of Columbia or Maryland upon hire.
  • CPR certification upon hire.
Working Environment:

This position operates in home and community environments.

Physical Requirements:

Medium work: lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.

Travel Requirements:

This position works standard and extended hours.
