Job Summary

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Swim Instructor to join our team. As a Swim Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching swim lessons to individuals of all ages and skill levels, while ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach swim lessons to individuals of all ages and skill levels
  • Ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants
  • Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility
  • Ensure safe and risk-free environment at all times while meeting individual needs of participants
  • Arrive to work on time, properly dressed, and ready to teach with enthusiasm
  • Prepare organized Session Plans and Daily Lesson Plans to facilitate classes
  • Lead classes within guidelines established by the YMCA of the USA's swim lesson programs
  • Provide verbal feedback to each participant consistently throughout each class
  • Be attentive and available to greet and connect with participants and their parents before and after class
  • Complete all required records and reports, including attendance records, progress reports, and accident/incident reports
  • Ensure proper and timely set-ups and clean-ups before and after classes, and store all instructional equipment in proper locations

Qualifications

  • Possession of a strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrate Intermediate swimming ability
  • Lifeguard and Swim Instructor certifications preferred

Certifications Required

  • New Hire Orientation training before start of 1st shift
  • CPR Pro/First Aid/AED within 30 days of hire

Physical Demands

The employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level is usually minimal to moderate.
