Pharmacy Technician I

Job Summary
This is an entry-level position in the Pharmacy Technician Job Family that performs non-sterile compounding and central pharmacy operations under the supervision of a pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician I is responsible for preparing medication doses, responding to nursing requests, and demonstrating a basic understanding of medication and pharmacy operations.
Essential Functions
- Compounds non-sterile, non-hazardous drugs and repackages medications using pharmaceutical mathematic calculations for pharmacist approval.
- Inventories supplies by checking for shortages, rotating stock, and removing expired medications.
- Accurately prepares and distributes medications.
- Documents compounding and medications in computer systems.
- Runs basic pharmacy operation reports.
- Responds to nursing requests by distributing doses to patients, successfully following security protocols.
- Performs basic controlled substance distribution and delivery.
- Fills medication trays and ensures accuracy.
- Utilizes pharmacy resources for accurate documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician by the California Board of Pharmacy, or Licensed as Pharmacy Intern by the California Board of Pharmacy, or Licensed as a Pharmacist by the California Board of Pharmacy.

- Ability to work with devices, information systems, automated and technical equipment utilized in pharmacy.
- Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.
- Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility.
- Knowledge of Medical terminology and abbreviations.
- Knowledge of methods and procedures involved in proper handling and storing of pharmaceutical supplies.
