Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Police Officer Trainee. As a trainee, you will attend a prescribed law enforcement academy training program to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become a successful police officer.

Key Responsibilities
The Police Officer Trainee will be responsible for participating in and completing a comprehensive training program that includes report writing, laws of arrest and seizure, defensive driving, and physical fitness. Additionally, the trainee will perform a wide range of police support duties, including dispatching and records, acting as a desk officer, and assisting in planning and research activities.

Requirements
To be successful in this role, the Police Officer Trainee must have the ability to:
  • Successfully complete a training program for entry-level police officers.
  • Pass a police background investigation.
  • Observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents, and places.
  • Learn to use and properly care for firearms.
  • Think and act quickly in emergencies and judge situations and people accurately.
  • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine the proper course of action.
  • Gather, assemble, analyze, evaluate, and use facts and evidence.
  • Learn, understand, interpret, and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and grammatically correct written reports.
  • Meet standards of physical stature, endurance, and agility established by the City.
  • Meet the requirements for a police officer contained in the California State Government Code.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.


Working Conditions
The Police Officer Trainee will work in a fast-paced environment and will be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions, around loud noise, and moving vehicles. The incumbent may also be subjected to physical threats, verbal abuse, and other stressful situations.

Education and Experience
A combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. The employee must have the ability to meet the minimum standards as required by the California Government Code Section 1031.

Licenses and Certifications
Possession of, and continuously throughout employment, a valid California Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent is required.

Supplemental Information
Successful candidates will be required to pass a drug screening, fingerprint screening, physical examination, and background investigation.
