Job Summary

The Certified Technician provides support to pharmacists by reviewing, compounding, and dispensing medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $5,000 in commitment incentives spread over two years.

Responsibilities
  1. Compound and/or prepare hazardous medications, including sterile products, oral, topical, controlled substances, etc., as authorized by a physician under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  2. Deliver and exchange medications to respective patient areas and return unused medications to the pharmacy.
  3. Document pharmaceutical activities, including patient billing for medications and equipment, quality control requirements, etc., using automated and paper systems.
  4. Respond to customer requests for assistance with pharmacy services, such as medication delivery and drug information.
  5. Operate and support automated dispensing technology to supply correct medications for individual patients according to pharmacist and physician orders.
  6. Order, receive, restock, and rotate inventory, and complete expiration date management.
  7. Assist with training new employees in job-specific functions.
  8. Contribute to process improvement projects.
  9. Complete regulatory compliance inspections of medication storage areas, including inspections and/or controlled substance inventories.
Education Requirements

No specific education requirements; completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program is preferred.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program. CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program.

Professional Experience Requirements

Prior pharmacy technician experience is preferred.

Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time position with a salary range of $17.50 - $24.63 per hour. UNC Health Care System offers competitive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
