Job Description

The Lead Teacher for Academy Adventures (After School Care) is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing an enriching after-school program for Lower School students that supports the academic, social, and emotional development of children. This role involves leading and supervising a team of assistant teachers, ensuring a safe and engaging environment, and fostering positive relationships with students, parents, and school staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Planning and Implementation:
    • Develop and execute a diverse curriculum that includes academic support, recreational activities, arts and crafts, and other enriching activities.
    • Ensure that activities are age-appropriate, safe, and meet the developmental needs of children.
  • Supervision and Leadership:
    • Lead and supervise assistant teachers and volunteers, providing guidance, support, and feedback.
    • Conduct regular team meetings to discuss program goals, student progress, and any issues or concerns.
  • Student Engagement and Management:
    • Foster a positive and inclusive environment where all students feel valued and supported.
    • Manage student behavior effectively, using positive discipline techniques and addressing any issues promptly.
  • Communication:
    • Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians, providing regular updates on student progress and program activities.
    • Collaborate with school staff and administration to ensure alignment with school policies and goals.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students at all times, following all health and safety regulations.
    • Keep accurate records of attendance, incidents, and other required documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an educational or after-school setting with kids.
  • Skills
    • Strong leadership and team management skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to develop and implement engaging and educational activities.
    • Proficient in conflict resolution and behavior management.
    • The ability to multitask

Working Conditions

  • Typical hours are Monday-Friday from 3:30-5:30 pm
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to participate in physical activities with children, including standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
