Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced ECMO Specialist to join our team in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, operating ECMO equipment, and collaborating with the interprofessional healthcare team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate ECMO equipment at the bedside in an ICU environment, monitoring the equipment and patient to detect any problems.
  • Develop and implement effective patient teaching strategies based on learning needs, using appropriate resources and incorporating planning for care after discharge.
  • Collaborate with the interprofessional healthcare team to achieve patient goals, including mobility, patient weaning, and other critical care interventions.
  • Model the standards of care related to the nursing process, providing care as the staff leader to patients on ECMO therapy and leading the interprofessional healthcare team in implementing the plan of care.
Requirements
  • Must have one of the following: Registered Nurse (RN) - Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited education program, Respiratory Therapist (RT) - Graduate of education program approved by the credentialing body, or Perfusionist - Bachelor's Degree and Graduate of education program approved by the credentialing body.
  • Three years' experience with direct ECMO patient care.
  • License/Certification: RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure within 60 days, RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC) - If Respiratory Therapist, PFSN - Perfusionists - State Licensure - If Perfusionist, must also have CCP, CCP - Certified Cardiovascular Perfusionist (ABCP) - If Perfusionist, must also have PFSN within 1 year, BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA) - For all roles, and ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA) - For all roles.
