The Division of Community Corrections (DCC) is on the lookout for qualified candidates interested in a career within the criminal justice system to become part of our team as Community Supervision Officers. Our offices are strategically located throughout the state, ensuring accessibility for our staff and the individuals we serve.

Position Overview

The Community Supervision Officer is tasked with overseeing a designated caseload of individuals who are under court-ordered supervision. Responsibilities include evaluating and developing case plans for offenders, promoting lawful behavior and active community involvement, preparing precise and timely reports and documentation, and engaging in community outreach initiatives.

Compensation Package

This role falls within pay schedule and range 12-06, offering a starting hourly wage of $22.51, along with a comprehensive benefits package provided by the State of Wisconsin. The Senior Community Supervision Officer position is classified under pay schedule/range 12-08, with a starting hourly wage of $26.33. Future salary adjustments will align with the Compensation Plan, scheduled at intervals of 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, and 15 years. Compensation will be determined according to the Compensation Plan and applicable Wisconsin Administrative Code at the time of hiring. A probationary period is mandatory.

Job Requirements

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may require pre-employment drug screenings. Any candidate offered a position that necessitates a drug screen must successfully pass this screening as a condition of employment.

Criminal background checks will be conducted on applicants prior to selection. All new employees are subject to fingerprinting upon hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will possess education, training, and/or experience in the following areas:

  • Social work methodologies, including case planning and management, needs assessment, and interviewing techniques.
  • Criminal justice principles.
  • Victim advocacy.
  • Cultural competency.
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Problem-solving and resolution strategies.
  • A valid driver's license and compliance with State of Wisconsin fleet requirements.

Additionally, candidates for the Senior level must have:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in probation/parole, including the management of correctional clients in detention settings.
  • Experience in case management and planning.
  • Application of Evidence-Based Practices within correctional environments.

Special Requirements:

Community Supervision Officers must possess a valid driver's license at the time of hire, have a two-year driving history, and be eligible to operate a state vehicle. Officers may be disqualified from driving a state vehicle if their driving record includes three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents within the past two years, an Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within the last 12 months, or any suspension or revocation of their driver's license.
