Director, Labor Relations

Corewell Health is seeking a highly skilled Director, Labor Relations to oversee all labor relations activity for the organization. The successful candidate will develop and implement a comprehensive labor strategy, including positive team member relations initiatives, to strengthen the long-term relationship between Corewell Health and its employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a labor strategy that aligns with Corewell Health's goals and objectives.
  • Lead positive team member relations initiatives to improve employee engagement and retention.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all union-related matters, including collective bargaining, organizing campaigns, and administrative charges.
  • Partner with inside and outside legal counsel to represent Corewell Health in mediation, arbitration, and administrative hearings.
  • Develop and provide training to Human Resources and leadership on labor-related subjects.
  • Lead the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Provide guidance to corporate departments on business consolidations, outsourcing, and reductions in force that may implicate union workforce.
  • Oversee the grievance process to ensure contractual rights are upheld.

Requirements:

  • Required Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Preferred Master's Degree in industrial Relations, labor relations, or similar discipline.
  • Doctorate Juris Doctorate (Highly Preferred).
  • 10 years of relevant experience, with 10+ years of increasingly responsible experience in Employee and Labor Relations working extensively with labor unions.
  • 2 years of relevant experience in a project management, supervisory, or managerial capacity.
  • Extensive experience with unions/union organizing campaigns.
  • Extensive experience negotiating Collective Bargaining Agreements (First Chair experience).
  • Extensive experience with conducting team member investigations.
  • Extensive experience with resolution of grievances and the arbitration process.
