Job Title: Supervising Dentist

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Supervising Dentist to join our team at Prairie State College. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical supervision to dental hygiene students, ensuring high-quality patient care, and contributing to the growth and development of our dental program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review medical history and determine if medical consultation is required before treatment.
  • Complete patient exams annually, including periodic, comprehensive, oral cancer screenings, and/or school exams.
  • Conduct patient screenings for periodontal disease.
  • Enter exam notes into patient's chart.
  • Provide patient referrals as necessary.
  • Authorize sealants, radiographs, and retakes.
  • Manage radiology log book, including checking in/out of sensors and tracking student retakes.
  • Personally evaluate radiographs assigned by you.
  • Review radiographs with students who require assistance in identifying landmarks or who ask for justification of their evaluated radiographs.
  • Provide direct supervision for local anesthesia administration and clinical Nitrous Oxide rotations.
  • Assume responsibility for client management during medical emergencies in the dental hygiene clinic.
  • Provide palliative care in case of minor dental issues.
Requirements:
  • DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) or DMD (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry or Doctor of Dental Medicine) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Five years experience as a practicing dentist.
  • Valid Illinois Dentist License.
  • Working knowledge of an Associate Degree Dental Hygiene Program/Philosophy.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills necessary to interface with students and the general public.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and their common instructional applications.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Compliance with CODA.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Flexible up to 19 hours per week.
  • $65.00 salary.
