Job Title: Physician Assistant/Advanced Practice Nurse, North Market, Institute for Cardiovascular Health, UT Health Austin

Job Summary:
The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) to join the Institute for Cardiovascular Health. This individual will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality adult cardiovascular and thoracic surgical care. The APP will split clinical time between the telemetry floor and the clinic, providing patient-centered care in both out-patient and in-patient settings.

Responsibilities:
  • Obtain patient history and perform assessments via observation, interview, and examination.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies.
  • Provide direct treatment and management of conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
  • Counsel and educate patients and their families/caregivers concerning health conditions, treatment options, and community resources.
  • Document delivery of healthcare and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy.
  • Participate in orientation and education of staff and students.

Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited training program and board certified by the respective accreditation body.
  • Physician Assistant with board certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and licensed through the Texas Medical Board.
  • Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner with Prescriptive Authority and board certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and licensed through the Texas Board of Nursing.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Cardiovascular and thoracic experience preferred.
  • Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various situations.
  • Capacity to work well with physicians and other care providers as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare delivery team.

Working Conditions:
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
  • Use of manual dexterity.
  • Lifting and moving.
  • Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished).
  • May work around standard office conditions.
  • May work around biohazards.
