Job Description:

The Perioperative Nurse Specialist will be responsible for providing all aspects of perioperative care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrate ability to assess patient status on admission to the preop area, operating room, and/or PACU area, and on a continuing basis.
  • Utilize the nursing process for patient assessment, problem identification, and any interventions.
  • Prepare patients for surgical procedures.
  • Physiologically monitor patients during procedures as required.
  • Administer and document medications, solutions, and treatments as prescribed.
  • Assist physicians with examinations, procedures, or other patient care activities.
  • Monitor and control the environment.
  • Provide equipment and supplies in a cost-effective manner based on patient needs.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and complete documentation.
  • Respect patient rights.
  • Participate in patient/family teaching based on the developmental age of the patient.
  • Perform actions that demonstrate accountability.
  • Orient, instruct, and train assigned personnel.
  • Follow established infection control policies and procedures.
  • Assign activity to assistive personnel based on their qualifications and patient needs.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in various programs, in-services, workshops, and meetings.
  • Maintain competencies to function in the RN role within specific areas (e.g., Preop, OR, and PACU).
  • Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills that promote a positive environment, teamwork, and loyalty to the organization.
  • Maintain a collegial relationship with physicians to ensure quality patient care.
  • In accordance with the ambulatory surgery center philosophy, present behaviors and actions that create a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, physicians, vendors, and Surgery Center staff.
  • Demonstrate behaviors and actions that support the mission, goals, and operations of the Surgery Center, contributing to continuous service improvement.
  • Exhibit flexibility, adapting readily to changes in the work environment and/or work schedule.
  • Maintain a positive attitude, even during periods of stress and challenge.
  • Maintain positive attendance and communicate in advance any absences from work.

Qualifications:

  • Current licensure in Arizona as a Registered Nurse.
  • Previous work experience in a clinical setting no less than one (1) year.
  • Proof of current BLS training/education.
  • Completion of ACLS and PALS course within six (6) months of date of hire.
  • Competence in oral and written communication.
  • Computer skills (computer charting, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Intermittent and prolonged physical mobility/activity, including walking, standing, sitting, lifting up to 50 pounds, pulling, and pushing carts, equipment, etc. Must be able to bend body downward at the waist; be able to kneel.
