Columbia State Community College is seeking a part-time physics faculty member to teach lecture and lab classes. The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in physics or a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in physics. The position involves preparing for courses, adhering to departmental course syllabi, and maintaining academic standards. The faculty member will also be responsible for evaluating students, maintaining accurate records, and responding to student questions in a timely manner. The salary is $545 per credit hour, and workload adjustments will be made for faculty teaching classes with more contact hours than credit hours. A travel stipend may also be negotiated for faculty traveling more than 80 miles each week to teach their classes.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare for courses as assigned and adhere to departmental course syllabi and course minimum student learning outcomes.
  • Begin and end all classes as scheduled.
  • Organize, assign, and supervise learning activities of students in his/her classes.
  • Maintain academic standards and classroom behavior to ensure an environment conducive to learning. Evaluate students using a variety of methods and for informing each student of scores received on each assessment in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance/participating and grades.
  • Read Columbia State email and respond to student questions via email in a timely manner.
  • Meet deadlines for all administrative requests such as submitting personnel paperwork, student enrollment.
Requirements
  • To teach lecture physics classes: Master's degree in physics (or a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in physics).
  • To facilitate physics labs: Bachelor's degree or higher in physics.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience.
  • Higher education experience.

Salary and Benefits
