Swim Instructor II

At the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, we're seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Swim Instructor II to join our team. As a Swim Instructor II, you will be responsible for teaching swim lessons to individuals of all ages and skill levels, creating a supportive and positive learning environment that fosters growth and development.

• Instruct swimming lessons to individuals of all ages and skill levels, following YMCA guidelines and best practices.
• Create and implement lesson plans that cater to the needs of each student, promoting progress and achievement.
• Teach proper swimming techniques, including strokes, breathing, and water safety, in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Provide feedback and encouragement to students, helping them to improve their swimming skills and build confidence.
• Ensure a safe and positive learning environment for all participants, adhering to YMCA policies and procedures.
• Monitor and manage student behavior during lessons, promoting a respectful and inclusive atmosphere.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, volunteers, and members, fostering a sense of community and teamwork.
• Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules, referring program participants and families to other relevant programs as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance, as required.
• Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.

• YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications.
• Ability to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Principles of Youth Development E-Learning (within 30 days of hire).
• Y-USA Leader Certification (within 90 days of hire).
• At least 17 years of age.
• At least 6 months of experience working with students.
• Previous experience working with students, preferably in a swim instruction or coaching role.
• Strong swimming skills and knowledge of various swimming techniques.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
• CPR and First Aid certification (ability to obtain within 30 days of employment).

• Previous experience working with students, preferably in a swim instruction or coaching role.
• Current or former competitive swimming experience.
• Adaptive swim certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
