Substation Engineer

Apex Systems is seeking a highly skilled Sr. Substation Engineer to join our team in North Palm Beach, FL.

This is a full-time, on-site position with a competitive hourly rate of up to $55/hour based on experience.

Job Summary:

The Sr. Substation Engineer will be responsible for applying diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and related fields. This role will evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional renewable generation substation projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and engineering of high-voltage substation projects from conception to commissioning.
• Collaborate with project teams to develop detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports.
• Secure required resources and manage budgets, risks, and changes.
• Conduct project meetings and track project progress.
• Identify and implement solutions to issues and challenges.
• Provide information to internal and external clients on moderate to complex issues.
• Develop and communicate presentation materials for report out and updates with various levels of internal and external stakeholders.
• Train and oversee external engineers of record to ensure compliance with industry codes and standards.
• Coordinate with other project stakeholders to develop and secure a substation site.
• Competitively source and select geotechnical, survey, engineering, and construction services.
• Support the E&C Cost Estimating Team with scope assumptions.
• Coordinate the engineering deliverables for FERC Order 1000 competitive request for proposals.
• Represent E&C's internal and external interests on assigned projects.
• Support Transmission Services during review of interconnection documentation.
• Manage project long lead major material orders to minimize risk of delays or exceeding the project budget.
• Support E&C Estimating with template updates and technical support.
• Collaborate with project engineering resources to determine project priorities and work plans.
• Ensure projects are efficiently, cost-effectively, and safely implemented in accordance with department process, procedures, industry standards, and policies.
• Support assigned project commissioning activities to meet corporate objectives.
• Support Legal in regulatory filings, depositions, and/or hearings.
• Collaborate with component OEMs to enhance/adapt their designs to better integrate with NEE philosophies.
• Conduct external research and stay abreast of new developments or innovative advancements pertaining to the project.
• Provide coaching, leadership, and direction to project teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certified Professional Engineer (PE)
• Six Sigma Black Belt Certified
• Six Sigma Green Belt Certified
• Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certified
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural engineering
• 4+ years' experience in Substation design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects is highly preferred.
• Project Engineering and/or Project Management experience with a strong bias for action. PMP and/or P.E. in related discipline is a plus.
