Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Litigation Support Specialist to join our team at the Colorado Judicial Branch. As a key member of our staff, you will play a critical role in assisting self-represented litigants navigate the court system, ensuring that their cases are handled efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist pro se litigants in procedural aspects of domestic relations cases, small claims, district and county civil lawsuits, name changes, evictions, adoptions, estate matters, guardianships, conservatorships, appeals, deregistration, and sealing criminal records.
  • Solicit and provide internal and external resources to pro se litigants, ensuring they have access to the information and support they need to succeed.
  • Inform self-represented litigants of available options and assist by providing information regarding state statutes, rules, policies, and procedures, without offering legal advice.
  • Organize and facilitate monthly legal clinics with volunteer attorneys for primary domestic, civil, and probate case types, and coordinate large-scale resource events.
  • Collaborate with judicial officers and supervisors to review and develop procedures to ensure and improve quality court representation, provide case flow management, and advise self-represented litigants on procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with external stakeholders, including attorneys and non-profits, and participate in various state and local committees and trainings.
  • Engage in community outreach initiatives to strengthen and identify resources for self-represented litigants, develop educational tools and resources, and maintain the website.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in the field of Psychology, Sociology, or related field.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in legal, social work, or similar field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex legal procedures and policies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deadlines.
Working Conditions

This is a sedentary role, requiring occasional walking and standing. The work environment is relatively free from unpleasant conditions and hazards. The ideal candidate will be able to work in an office setting, with occasional exposure to hostile or irate individuals, and those with known or violent backgrounds.
