Job Overview

The Quality Engineer position at Detroit Chassis LLC plays a pivotal role in driving reduction in external and internal indicators through problem-solving techniques, containment, permanent corrective actions, and In-Station Process Control (ISPC); Error Proofing; Visual Control, Work Instructions/Operation Processes at the operator level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure Plant Certifications: Implement and maintain QS9000; ISO/TS16949; ISO 14001 certifications to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Update Control Plans and FMEA: Regularly update Control Plans and FMEA processes to ensure effective corrective actions.
  • Document Control and Communication: Establish and maintain a Document Control Process, ensuring proper communication of nonconformance/noncompliance conditions that violate the process.
  • Variation Reduction Team Leadership: Lead the Variation Reduction Team (VRT) in efforts to reduce plant-wide variations.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Ensure regular data collection, charting, SPC/CPK studies are performed to identify areas for improvement.
  • Quality Alert Process Champion: Champion the Quality Alert process, ensuring full station containment and proper inspection station verification.
  • Hourly Monitoring: Conduct hourly monitoring of assembly conditions to prevent defective product from reaching the Customer Acceptance Line.
  • Campaign Practices Administration: Administer Yard Audit and Campaign practices according to documented procedures.
  • Daily Review of Repair Data: Daily review of repair data to ensure corrective action measures are appropriate to prevent defects from reaching the customer.
  • Problem-Solving Activities: Lead problem-solving activities for internal and external concerns relating to assigned programs using the 8D process.
  • Control Plan Development and Maintenance: Develop and maintain all Control Plans using the proper PQP process, linking the Control Plans to the PFMEA, ensuring product quality is maintained.
  • Production Trial Runs: Ensure Production Trial Runs (PTRs) are completed on engineering changes and or product launches.
  • Engineering Change Meetings Representation: Attend all engineering change meetings representing the Quality department.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Minimum two-year degree in Quality Control or ASQ certified Quality Engineer, and or equivalent four years combination of education and experience.
  • ISO Auditor Certification: Minimum one year ISO auditor certification.
  • APQP Experience: Minimum one-year experience in APQP on new products in the automotive industry.
  • AIAG and Related Quality Systems Knowledge: Knowledge of AIAG and related quality systems.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to problem-solve using 8D, 5-whys analysis, and fishbone diagramming.
  • Systematic Problem-Solving Skills: Systematic problem-solving skills.
  • Software Proficiency: Ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SPC programs.
  • Quality Control Plan and PFMEA Understanding: Ability to read and apply the Quality Control Plan process and how it connects to the PFMEA process.
  • Excellent Writing and Communication Skills: Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Six-Sigma Green or Black Belt Process: Knowledge of Six-Sigma green or black belt process.
Salary and Benefits
