Job Summary

As a Radiation Physicist at Geisinger Health System, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy to our patients. This position requires a strong background in physics and a passion for delivering high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide and supervise the functioning and activities related to dosimetry, calibration, treatment planning, and safety equipment.
  • Maintain equipment and regulatory records, and bill for services.
  • Assist with the coordination of equipment usage, selection, and replacement as required.
  • Prepare and update physics and dosimetry policies and procedures as required.
  • Consult with Radiation Oncologists on the physical and radiobiological aspects of patient treatments and treatment plans.
  • Acquire and store data for treatment plans.
  • Calculate dose distributions and machine settings for patient treatments.
  • Assure the accuracy of treatment units and simulator parameters and settings used for patient treatments.
  • Verify the correct transfer of parameters between the simulator, treatment plan, and treatment unit.
  • Perform in vivo measurements to verify the dose delivered to the patient when requested by the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Calibrate sources and maintain all information necessary for their appropriate use.
  • Maintain all instrumentation required for calibration of sources.
  • Assist in the development of techniques to improve the delivery of radiation treatment.
  • Participate in chart rounds and other patient discussion conferences as required by the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Provide continuing education to the Radiation Oncology staff.
  • Help develop and maintain a quality assurance program for all treatment modalities, localization procedures, and computational equipment and programs.
  • Participate in the development and administration of a radiation safety program as required by the Radiation Safety Officer.
  • Monitor a personnel radiation monitoring program for Radiation Oncology as required.
  • Prepare calculations and verify shielding required for new or renovated treatment rooms.
  • Provide performance specifications, acceptance testing, and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Develop and promote interpersonal relations to enhance the achievement of departmental goals.
  • Assume the duties of a Senior Physicist if and when such duties are assigned by the Medical Director.
  • Follow established departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participate in resource allocation planning for equipment usage, selection, and replacement.
  • Develop techniques to improve the delivery of radiation treatments.
  • Maintain equipment and regulatory records, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Certification(s) and License(s) as required by the state and federal regulatory agencies.
