About the Role

ChristianaCare is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Pathologists' Assistant to join its esteemed team of medical professionals. This full-time position offers an exceptional opportunity for growth and development in a supportive and cohesive work environment.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing surgical grossing work at Christiana Care Network sites, based on volume requirements and direction from laboratory scheduling created by the Lead Pathologists' Assistant. Key tasks include:

  • Responding to Pathologists' Assistant team priorities based on patient/specimen needs and acting accordingly
  • Performing necessary diagnostic testing and directing appropriate requests for ancillary studies within scope of practice and credentials
  • Utilizing the electronic medical record (EMR) to gather clinical information and optimize specimen handling and testing
  • Providing education and counseling to PAs, physicians, and laboratory staff using teaching/learning principles and expert clinical knowledge
  • Ensuring accurate accessioning, setup, triage, and verification of unique patient identifiers
  • Maintaining current CAP guidelines for macroscopic description and dissection of surgical specimens and preparing tissue for histologic processing
  • Assisting with autopsy procedures, including decedent identification, organ dissection, submitting tissue blocks, and completing gross reports
Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  • Completion of a NAACLS accredited Pathologists' Assistant program
  • Certification or eligibility for certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology
  • Membership in the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants (AAPA)
  • Ongoing Continuing Medical Education: 60 credits every 3 years, including 1 credit each for safety and medical ethics
