Job Summary

The Assisted Living Certification Unit of the Executive Office of Elder Affairs (EOEA) is responsible for the certification and regulatory oversight of approximately 271 Assisted Living Residences (ALRs) statewide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate ALR records during the biennial site visit process with a focus on safe medication administration, appropriate care planning and service provision, and effective internal quality reviews.
  • Review and evaluate reports with potentially related clinical issues received via the incident reporting system and referrals from Protective Service, the ombudsman's office, consumers of assisted living, outside providers, other state agencies and the public to determine applicability and compliance with regulations.
  • Conduct inquiries and investigations into Resident care issues identified during the site visit process, through the incident reporting system and referrals from within and outside EOEA.
  • Conduct follow up site visits when needed to determine ongoing compliance with rules and regulations for ALR certification.
  • Participate in the development of methods of evaluating and determining the ALR's compliance with the regulations, the utilization of existing policies and practices that promote Resident health and safety.
Requirements
  • Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
  • At least one year of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, and six months of which must have been in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity.
