Software Engineering Team Lead

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development of reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems. We're seeking a highly skilled Software Engineering Team Lead to join our diverse team of problem solvers and contribute to our mission of having millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a flight software development team for the Mk1 Blue Moon Lunar Lander.
  • Contribute as a flight software developer to the embedded flight software.
  • Develop software requirements and architecture in coordination with systems engineering and subsystem owners.
  • Author unit tests, documentation, and participate in code reviews.
  • Coordinate the technical activities of the team developing vehicle and subsystem management applications.
  • Coordinate efforts to integrate flight software components for testing and verification in Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation environments.
  • Define, implement, and teach software development best practices.

Requirements:

  • B.S. degree or equivalent in computer, aerospace, or electrical engineering or related field.
  • 6+ years of embedded software development and testing experience including multi-threaded programming and real-time systems, particularly in C/C++.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills with program and executive leadership.
  • Proven experience in requirement derivation, implementation, and verification.
  • Familiarity with Agile and DevOps processes and culture.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of software development leadership experience.
  • 10+ years of software development experience for real-time embedded systems.
  • Embody our Blue Origin Leadership Principles with a history of providing technical leadership and mentoring to other team members.
  • Experience working on multiple, concurrent product baselines (product line engineering).
  • Experience working all phases of spacecraft development and operations, including proposals, system definition, design, production, integration, verification, on-orbit checkout, mission operations, and anomaly resolution.
  • Experience working on multi-component, complex avionics for spacecraft, aircraft, or similar systems.
  • Experience in autonomy, sequencers, state machines, and/or fault management utilizing NPR 7150.2, DO-178, or other safety/mission-critical software standards.
  • Understanding of spacecraft operations, subsystem functions, and their interfaces and common interactions.
  • Experience with Embedded Linux or equivalent real-time operating systems.
  • Familiarity with embedded avionics networking, including OSI model, transport/data link layers, Ethernet, IP, UDP/TCP/SCTP, CCSDS, or other radio networking protocols.

Relocation provided.

Interviews will include a technical assessment.

Compensation Range: $170,805.00-$239,127.00

Other site ranges may differ.
