Job Summary:

As a key member of the Assembly Member's team, the Communications Director will develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that effectively communicates the Assembly Member's vision and goals to the public, media, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in communications, public relations, and media relations, with a proven track record of success in a political or government setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement a strategic communications plan that aligns with the Assembly Member's goals and objectives

Serve as the primary spokesperson, managing all media inquiries and coordinating interviews, press conferences, and public statements

Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, speeches, newsletters, and other communication materials

Manage the Assembly Member's social media presence, ensuring consistent messaging and engagement with constituents

Monitor media coverage and public sentiment, providing the Assembly member with timely updates and advice on communication

Collaborate with legislative and community affairs teams to ensure consistent messaging across all platforms and events

Organize and promote public events, town halls, and press conferences

Build and maintain relationships with local and state media outlets, community leaders, and other stakeholders

Handle crisis communications and develop strategies to address any negative publicity or issues that may arise

Assist in drafting policy briefs, op-eds, and other content that supports the Assembly Member's legislative agenda

Requirements:

Bachelor's or Associates degree in Political Science, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field

Proven experience in communications, public relations, or media relations, preferably within a political or government setting

Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills

Knowledge of the political landscape and issues affecting the 68th district

Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for events and crises

What We Offer:

Competitive salary range from $45,000 to $55,000 annually

Full-time, permanent appointment

Non-competitive class jurisdictional appointment

40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM

No telecommuting, compressed workweek, or mandatory overtime allowed
