Senior Director of Global Business Development and Partnerships

Otsuka seeks a seasoned Senior Director of Global Business Development and Partnerships, reporting to the Executive Director of Business Development, to support global business development transactions. This role requires extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, along with a strong scientific and development background, proven project and people leadership, business and strategic acumen, and excellent communication skills.
The successful candidate will lead business development transaction activities, such as product acquisitions and licensing deals, for the global market, including the US, with biotech and pharma companies. They will communicate effectively with potential partners, negotiate agreements, and ensure deal structure is defined, term-sheets are drafted, financial analysis is conducted, and transactions are executed.
This role involves working closely with internal stakeholders, including the head of global business development and senior management, to prepare and present transactional aspects of each business case. The Senior Director will partner with the scientific and technical evaluation team to ensure deals align with strategic partnering objectives and work with the contract negotiation team at Japan HQ to complete definitive agreements.
Key responsibilities include generating and designing term sheets, reviewing and revising counter proposals, supporting due diligence processes, and establishing and maintaining internal and external stakeholder networks.
To succeed in this role, you should have an advanced degree (MS, MBA, PharmD, JD, MD, or PhD) and 6-10 years of relevant business development experience, with a focus on clinical stage deals. You must demonstrate negotiation and deal-making experience, extensive scientific knowledge, and the ability to manage in-licensing and out-licensing business development processes from start to finish.
A strong track record of managing cross-functional teams, building relationships with internal and external partners, and communicating effectively with various stakeholders is essential. You should also possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, leadership and management skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to think strategically.
We estimate the annual salary for this role to be around $180,000, considering the location and requirements.
