Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team at Diabetes & Glandular Disease Clinic, P.A. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing state-of-the-art laboratory testing services for patients of all ages, from neonates to geriatric patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and test specimens for clinical studies in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Review test results and apply clinical interpretation of that data.
  • Report lab results accurately and responsively, utilizing a laboratory information system.
  • Process blood and other body fluids for various microscopic analyses.
  • Specialize in laboratory instrumentation and equipment, including operational maintenance.
  • Communicate test results, methodology, and specificity to others, answering questions about factors influencing test results.
  • Perform proper specimen handling and processing.
  • Participate in proficiency testing as routine workload.
  • Provide excellent patient care and customer service.
  • Attend mandatory in-services and adhere to policies on safety, hazardous materials, and infection control.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
Requirements
  • Baccalaureate degree from an approved college or university and graduation from an accredited school of medical technology or equivalent.
  • Experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Certification (registered) or registry-eligible in accordance with an approved certifying agency.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proper techniques, methods, and procedures for basic clinical laboratory testing.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory functions and the laboratory's role in healthcare delivery.
  • Use of a computer data terminal.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to perform a variety of testing techniques, requiring manual or automated methods.
Work Environment

Routine duties involve primarily laboratory-related conditions. Daily functions may include incidental exposures to unpleasant vapors, fumes, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, chemical and biological hazards, patient contact, waste handling, and computer use.

Most functions require use of protective equipment such as face shields, gloves, and fluid-resistant coats. Requires full range of body motion, including sitting, walking, standing, kneeling, twisting of the upper body, and occasionally lifting up to 20lbs. Requires correctable vision. May make several trips to various parts of the clinic and laboratory.

Works in an air-conditioned and well-equipped laboratory. Hazardous working conditions may include injury from mechanical movement of automated instruments and equipment, electrical shock, skin, inhalation, and mucous membrane contact with hazardous chemicals, explosives, and flammable liquids, and exposure to human blood and body fluids.

Physical Requirements: Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform tasks normally associated with a Medical Technologist, including standing six to eight hours per day, walking, bending, and reaching. Occasionally lifting up to 30lbs of supplies and equipment and helping with patient transport and transfer. Some stress when dealing with priorities and anxious patients.
