Christus Health is seeking a highly skilled Chief Nursing Officer to lead our nursing team and drive exceptional patient care.

About the Role

The Chief Nursing Officer will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of nursing practice and operations across assigned areas. This includes interpretation, implementation, and evaluation of hospital and departmental philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures.

Main Responsibilities
  • Participate in the establishment and implementation of yearly goals for the units.
  • Monitor operations of the unit, measuring progress towards goals and identifying problems requiring corrective action.
  • Serve as an advocate for patients/families, ensuring their rights are respected, satisfaction issues addressed, and associates adhere to core values.
  • DIRECT patient care in compliance with regulatory standards, including Joint Commission and state licensure requirements.
  • Contribute to the development, communication, and implementation of nursing and organizational policy and procedure.
  • Engage in intra and interdepartmental committees and task forces focused on improving patient care.
  • Collaborate with other Department Managers and Hospital Leadership to resolve unit/staff issues.
  • Develop, communicate, and update unit(s) standards, protocols, policies, and procedures to meet trends in nursing practice and patient services.
  • Recruit and hire qualified associates through collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Counsel, guide, and discipline associates to enhance patient care through compliance with established hospital policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate staff job performance on a timely basis, recognizing associate accomplishments and facilitating professional development.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of associate files, including licensure, credentialing records, certifications, orientation documentation, skills checklists, and continuing education requirements.
  • Foster staff participation in the professional practice model.
  • Resolve conflicts involving staff, physicians, patients/families, interdepartmental, and intra-departmental issues.
  • Empower associates through effective delegation, maintaining accountability.
  • Direct and ensure staff participation in process improvement activities for the unit/hospital.
  • Lead regular staff meetings addressing unit issues, process improvement, and safety; ensure staff meeting minutes are available on time.
  • Establish and enforce methods for ongoing maintenance and upkeep of unit supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain documentation of quality control aspects of the clinic(s), including POCT logs, refrigerator temps, etc., required by Joint Commission.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, administrators, patients, families, other departments, and the community to provide quality patient care and enhance patient outcomes.
  • Maintain core staffing within established guidelines ensuring patient safety and considering skill mix and experience of staff.
  • Oversee daily staffing of the unit and collaborate with Lead Associates on developing and revising the staffing schedule.
  • Assess competency of all associates as part of the orientation program and on an ongoing basis.
  • Identify, plan, develop, and/or arrange programs to meet educational/skills needs of associates upon hiring and on an ongoing basis.
  • Identify, plan, develop methods to meet educational needs of the patient population.
  • Contribute annually to the development of operating and capital budgets to meet the needs of the unit.
  • Ensure effective and appropriate utilization of material and human resources.
  • Review financial and productivity management reports and take appropriate actions.
  • Demonstrate competence in performing assigned patient care responsibilities meeting the age-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department.
  • Appropriately review patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods performed by nursing to accommodate unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient served.

  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • RN License in the state of employment or compact
  • BLS certification
Salary and Benefits

The salary for this role is estimated to be around $130,000-$160,000 per year, based on industry standards and location. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
