Overview

Tesla's Power Electronics team is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join its elite group of engineers. As part of this team, you will be responsible for the design and development of cutting-edge power converters that are integral to the success of Tesla's Semi program.

Estimated Salary: $135,000 - $165,000 per year, plus competitive benefits and stock awards.

About the Role

This position requires strong mechanical engineering skills, with expertise in statics & dynamics, fluids & thermals, mechanics & vibration, and electrical isolation. You will be working on complex designs, including custom magnetic components, high-voltage connectors, and other components. Your day-to-day tasks will involve modeling, design analysis, and testing of mechanical components and assemblies.

Your Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies, including plastics, sheet metal, heat sinks, insulation systems, and magnetic components.
  • Perform mechanical design analysis, including thermal, CFD, structural, design for assembly, and design for test.
  • Solve electronics packaging issues, including electrical isolation, sealing, thermal management, interconnection, shock and vibration management, and electromagnetic interference (EMI).
  • Develop engineering test plans for designs.
  • Create drawing packages and manufacturing instructions for parts and assemblies.
  • Collaborate with other mechanical, systems, electrical, digital control, manufacturing, industrial design, and test engineers to take designs from prototype through mass production.

Your Requirements

  • Knowledge of GD&T, finite element analysis, and design for reliability concepts.
  • Experience using CATIA V5 and/or V6.
  • Experience with PLM systems, engineering changes, deviations, BOM structuring, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Matlab, Python, and ANSYS.
  • Experience with environmental, reliability, safety, and industry standard requirements for automotive, industrial & residential products.
  • Basic understanding of electrical design fundamentals.
  • Experience with high volume manufacturing processes, such as injection molding, stamping, diecast, etc.
  • Familiarity with PCBAs and PCBA components.
