Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Sleep Technologist operates under the general oversight of the Sleep Center Director, delivering thorough assessments of sleep-related disorders. This includes conducting both in-center and home sleep apnea evaluations, implementing diagnostic and therapeutic measures, and providing comprehensive patient care along with direct education for patients. The individual in this role is certified in sleep technology and is responsible for supervising other staff members within the Sleep Center.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain professional identification and greet patients courteously while addressing inquiries efficiently.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and inspection of sleep study equipment and manage inventory.
  • Provide education to patients regarding procedures in accordance with Sleep Center protocols.
  • Evaluate and review sleep studies, offering constructive feedback to colleagues.
  • Adhere to established policies and engage in quality assurance initiatives within the Sleep Center.

Preparation and Setup for Sleep Studies

  • Gather and analyze patient data to tailor the approach to individual needs, considering physical and emotional health.
  • Collaborate with the ordering physician to finalize testing parameters.
  • Verify patient history and medical orders prior to testing.
  • Confirm patient identity and obtain necessary consent upon arrival.
  • Explain the testing process and prepare patients for either in-center or home evaluations.
  • Calibrate and select appropriate equipment for testing, ensuring proper functionality.
  • Apply electrodes and sensors following established standards.

Conducting Sleep Studies

  • Implement procedural protocols for various sleep studies, including PSG and MSLT.
  • Perform physiological calibrations to guarantee accurate signal acquisition.
  • Document baseline values and monitor study quality throughout the process.
  • Record observations related to sleep stages and significant clinical events.
  • Implement necessary interventions to ensure patient safety and effective treatment.
  • Generate detailed reports summarizing sleep/wake data and clinical events.

CULTURAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Comply with corporate and departmental policies and participate in required training sessions.
  • Uphold the organization's values and vision, contributing positively to the workplace culture.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of an accredited program in sleep technology or a related field.
  • Certification from a recognized board, holding credentials such as CPSGT or RPSGT.
  • Current CPR or BLS certification is mandatory.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Exhibit strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Maintain compliance with safety regulations and privacy policies.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer applications and electronic health records.

PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift and move equipment as necessary and perform tasks in various positions.
  • Capability to work under pressure while maintaining professionalism.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • May involve exposure to cleaning agents and potential infectious materials.
  • Availability to assist patients and staff throughout the shift is essential.
