Job Title: Communications Research Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Communications Research Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for researching and developing innovative solutions to address evolving threats in wireless communications and networking engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Research and develop new technologies to address emerging threats in wireless communications and networking engineering
  • Collaborate with sponsors to understand and tackle their toughest problems
  • Work with a wide range of technologies, including wired, wireless, line-of-sight, and beyond-line-of-sight links, SATCOM, IP networking, RF systems, protocols, software-defined radio, stealth waveforms, 5G cellular, and cognitive radio
Qualifications:
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or another technical discipline
  • At least one year of experience in communications, signal processing, or networks systems engineering
  • Proficiency in communication theory and digital signal processing, with a solid foundational knowledge of the physical, data link, and media access layers of communication or networking systems
  • Experience in modeling and simulation of the physical layer with MATLAB, Python, or other languages
  • Demonstrated strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least five years of experience in commercial and/or government communication and network systems engineering
  • Recent knowledge of DoD and/or intelligence community sponsors and programs
  • Active TS/SCI w/ Poly clearance
