Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused individual to join our team as an Information Desk Associate at Massachusetts General Hospital. As a key member of our front-line staff, you will be responsible for providing exceptional service to patients, visitors, and staff, ensuring a warm and welcoming experience for all.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greets and Welcomes: Greet patients, visitors, and staff with a pleasant smile and eye contact, acknowledging their presence and making them feel valued.
  • Provides Assistance: Offer assistance and respond accurately and completely to all requests in a timely and compassionate manner, providing escort services and directing patients and visitors to medical, business, or services appointments.
  • Answers Telephone: Answer telephone calls, providing accurate and clear information and directions to callers.
  • Utilizes Technology: Utilize computerized information systems to access patient and employee information, ensuring seamless arrivals and discharges of patients.
  • Supervises and Coaches: Supervise and offer coaching in customer service to volunteers and colleagues, promoting a culture of excellence.
  • Maintains a Safe Environment: Monitor the environment closely and continuously for lost patients and visitors, helping to maintain a welcoming, clean, and safe environment.
  • Receives and Processes Envelopes: Receive envelopes and packages at the Main Information Desk, maintaining a log and ensuring quick pick-up by hospital staff.
  • Assists with Special Projects: Assist with special projects as needed, contributing to the overall success of the department.
Requirements
  • Customer Service Experience: A minimum of 5 years' work experience in a customer service-focused role, with a proven track record of delivering exceptional service.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to speak articulately, maintain eye contact, and listen carefully.
  • Computer Skills: Exceptional computer skills, with the ability to utilize technology to access patient and employee information.
  • Language Skills: Conversational language skills in a second language are preferred.
  • Healthcare Experience: Experience in a healthcare setting is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Boston Area Services: Knowledge of Boston area services is desirable.
Working Conditions
  • Fast-Paced Environment: Work in a fast-paced environment with a high volume of service requests and repetitive requests for information.
  • Physical Demands: Stand for long periods of time, push patients in wheelchairs, and maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
