Job Summary:

U Mass Memorial Health is seeking a skilled EMT Paramedic to join our team. As an EMT Paramedic, you will be responsible for providing emergency medical care to patients in response to emergency calls.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer skilled medical care to individuals in response to emergency treatment in accordance with the Massachusetts EMS Pre-Hospital Treatment protocols.
  • Examine, assess, and stabilize patients at emergency scene, including advanced cardiac life support, hemorrhage control, treatment for shock, immobilization of fractures, bandaging, proper treatment for burns, poisoning, or drug overdose.
  • Obtain medical history, check vital signs, and advise/inform on-call physician of diagnostic indication.
  • Perform definitive life support, administer treatment, and utilize advanced life support equipment and procedures as directed by authorized physician.
  • Respond to a wide range of emergency situations, provide control at the scene of medical emergency, and conduct triage, treatment, and transportation at mass casualty incidents.
  • Document pre-hospital care received by patients to facilitate admission to healthcare facility and for database purposes.
  • Prepare patients for transport, consult with radio dispatcher, and administer additional treatment when necessary.
  • Drive ambulance to and from scene of emergency, inspect, clear, stock, and make repairs to Emergency Medical Services vehicle and equipment.
  • Maintain control of narcotics Class B and C, maintain up-to-date records of inventory, and ensure emergency vehicle is properly stocked with necessary supplies, equipment, and medications.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
  • Certified in CPR - Basic Rescue by either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
  • Certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support by the American Heart Association.
  • Valid driver license.

Experience/Skills:

  • Experience in accident scene management and control.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under often stressful situations.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum three year's experience in an urban EMS service integrated with a municipal first response system.
