Job Summary

The City of Reno is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Utility Services to lead the Utility Services Department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in water and wastewater resources management, with a proven track record of successfully managing complex projects and teams.

The Director of Utility Services will be responsible for planning, directing, and managing the activities and operations of the Utility Services Department, including water production, water distribution, sewer and drainage collection, and customer service. The successful candidate will have excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders, including city officials, department staff, and the public.

The Director of Utility Services will also be responsible for developing and implementing departmental goals, objectives, and priorities, as well as overseeing the development and administration of the department budget. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of municipal budget preparation and administration, as well as contract negotiation and administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, direct, and manage the activities and operations of the Utility Services Department
  • Develop and implement departmental goals, objectives, and priorities
  • Oversee the development and administration of the department budget
  • Manage and direct a comprehensive utility services program
  • Represent the Utility Services Department to other departments, elected officials, and outside agencies
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil or environmental engineering or a related field
  • 10 years of increasingly responsible water and wastewater resources management experience, including 3 years of management and administrative responsibility
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license
  • Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Nevada
