Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilizes scientific methodologies to identify, prevent, and address pulmonary and cardiopulmonary disorders.
  • Oversees and coordinates the administration of medical gases.
  • Delivers aerosolized medications as prescribed.
  • Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to sustain both natural and artificial airways.
  • Engages in cardiopulmonary resuscitation as a member of a multidisciplinary emergency response team.
  • Conducts pulmonary function assessments including spirometry, lung volumes, and diffusing capacity tests.
  • Executes exercise oximetry evaluations.
  • Educates patients and families on respiratory care practices and related health issues.
  • Provides consultation and training on respiratory matters to other healthcare providers as necessary.
  • Performs routine maintenance, daily calibration, and quality assurance checks on complex pulmonary function testing equipment.
  • Documents all relevant patient care information, treatments administered, and patient responses in the electronic medical record.
  • Maintains accurate departmental records including competencies and certifications.
  • Completes additional duties as assigned by the Director of the Respiratory Care Department.
Qualifications:
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Certification as a Principal Investigator (CPI) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
  • Comprehensive understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
  • Strong technical proficiency.
  • In-depth knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Commitment to high-quality patient care.
  • Minimum of two years of recent experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapist program.
  • Active and unrestricted Respiratory Therapist license in Texas.
  • One year of experience with Epic software.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the NBRC.
