Assistant Chief Engineer

Job Summary
As Assistant Chief Engineer at Marriott, you will assist the department head in managing the budget, capital expenditures, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation. You will be accountable for maintaining the building and grounds with a focus on safety, security, and asset protection. Your responsibilities will include assigning, tracking, and following up on the status of work assigned to staff and contractors. You will also help increase guest and employee satisfaction through effective communications and training.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, with 4 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related field. Technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, and plumbing is also required. Prior facility management experience, big box experience, and union experience are preferred.
Core Work Activities
Supervise the distribution of repair work orders.
Ensure property policies are administered fairly and consistently.
Assist in planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs.
Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with employees.
Monitor the timeliness and quality of completion of repair work orders.
Supervise Engineering and related areas in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
Assist in managing the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical, and life safety systems.
Ensure regular communication occurs with employees to create awareness of business objectives, communicate expectations, and recognize performance.
Recommend or arrange for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.
Select and order or purchase new equipment, supplies, and furnishings.
Supervise the day-to-day operations of Engineering and related departments.
Maintaining Property Standards
Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to determine the type of work required.
Maintain accurate logs and records as required.
Operate generators and fire pumps as necessary.
Provide emergency response services 24/7.
Repair equipment (e.g., refrigeration, laundry) as necessary.
Ensure all employees have the proper supplies, equipment, and uniforms.
Ensuring Exceptional Customer Service
Empower employees to provide excellent customer service.
Emphasize guest satisfaction during all departmental meetings and focus on continuous improvement.
Set a positive example for guest relations.
Conducting Human Resources Activities
Help train employees in safety procedures.
Support a departmental orientation program for employees to receive the appropriate new hire training to successfully perform their job.
Communicate performance expectations in accordance with job descriptions for each position.
Ensure disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to Standard and Local Operating Procedures (SOPs and LSOPs) and support the Peer Review Process.
Assist as needed in the interviewing and hiring of employee team members with the appropriate skills.
Participate in the employee performance appraisal process, providing feedback as needed.
Use all available on-the-job training tools for employees.
Solicit employee feedback.
Supervise staffing levels to ensure that guest service, operational needs, and financial objectives are met.
Benefits and Compensation
The salary range for this position is $69,000 to $88,000 annually. Marriott offers a bonus program, comprehensive health care benefits, 401(k) plan with up to 5% company match, employee stock purchase plan at 15% discount, accrued paid time off (including sick leave where applicable), life insurance, group disability insurance, travel discounts, adoption assistance, paid parental leave, health savings account (except for positions based out of or performed in Hawaii), flexible spending accounts, tuition assistance, pre-tax commuter benefits, other life and work wellness benefits, and may include other incentives such as stock awards and deferred compensation plans. Benefits and incentive compensation may be subject to generally applicable eligibility, waiting period, contribution, and other requirements and conditions.
