Mental Health Specialist II Job Summary

Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care is seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Specialist II to join our team. As a Mental Health Specialist II, you will play a vital role in providing person-centered, culturally competent, and consumer-friendly services to individuals who contact our Call Center.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Interact with supervisors to discuss duties and assignments for each shift.
  • Provide assistance to Mental Health Specialists III as needed, under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Develop a schedule for follow-up calls.
  • Offer customer-friendly services, taking the initiative to engage individuals served in an empathic and concerned manner.
  • Promptly respond to all service requests.
  • Respond to referrals, inquiries, and other contacts with professionals, outside agencies, and other parties in a professional and cordial manner.
  • Identify the needs of individuals served, using language and tone that communicates respect for the individual.
  • Respond with sensitivity to cultural and socio-economic issues of individuals served.
  • Model good communication skills, living skills, effective coping skills, and self-help strategies for individuals served.
  • Assist individuals served in identifying their personal goals, setting objectives for each goal, and determining interventions to be used based on the consumer's life goals.
Requirements:
  • Four (4) years of full-time experience in the mental health field or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant mental or social health care field.
  • Equivalent education, experience, and/or training may be substituted for the degree.
  • Active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work for applicants possessing a degree in Social Work.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a computer to record services and other basic office functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Fluency in Spanish required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous training and/or experience working with substance use disorders preferred.
Equipment Utilized:
  • Office environment. Moderate noise.
