Performance Quality Engineer

The Principal Performance Engineer will play a critical role in the performance and scalability of FIS' Digital Platform APIs and back-end services driving the delivery of a reliable, secure and scalable banking platform.
In this role, you will define and enable adoption of a performance test strategy that enables continuous automated performance testing in CI/CD pipelines to ensure the FIS Digital platform meets high standards of performance, scalability, and reliability.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background and extensive hands-on experience with performance testing tools, frameworks, analysis, monitoring/observability tools, development and scripting, performance test environment and test data setup, APIs, and distributed systems.
Key Responsibilities- Define performance test strategy and test plans to ensure that the performance/scalability of FIS Digital banking platform and products meets non-functional requirements and aligns with the product business requirements.
- Implement performance testing frameworks. Design and execute performance test scripts.
- Integrate performance tests into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous performance testing and Quality Gates.
- Work with DevOps to setup and maintain performance test environments, configuration and test data.
- Utilize performance monitoring tools, such as Datadog APM or Dynatrace, to identify bottlenecks and work with development teams to resolve.
- Communicate performance testing progress, risks and results to stakeholders to enable production deployment readiness decisions
- Collaborate with Architects and Development teams to recommend optimizations and improvements based off performance test results.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement in performance testing and help teams increase productivity and foster innovation.
- Research, Implement and maintain performance test frameworks, scripts and tools.
- Evaluate performance testing tools and make recommendations for adoption based on quality, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with organizational goals.
- Demonstrated ability to innovate and leverage new technologies, tools, and techniques to solve complex technical challenges in performance testing, performance test environments and test data management.
- Enable teams with the Performance testing frameworks, pipelines and tools that promote continuous performance testing and benchmarks.
- Implement performance testing as a quality gate in CI/CD pipelines.
- Participate in code reviews to maintain the quality and stability of the performance test frameworks and scripts.
- Act as a subject matter expert on Performance testing topics, provide technical guidance to stakeholders on Performance testing strategies and best practices, and contribute to knowledge sharing efforts.
- Collaborate with development, QE, DevOps, product management, and other teams to align performance testing goals and drive continuous improvement
- Champion a culture of innovation, creativity, and excellence in Quality within the Digital teams, fostering collaboration and a positive work environment.
- Extensive experience with performance testing tools like JMeter, K6, or Locust
- Experience with performance monitoring tools like DataDog APM or Dynatrace
- Proficient in JavaScript and at least one more scripting language, such as Python.
- Experience with setup and maintenance of performance test environments and automated test data setup
- Experience with Docker, AWS or Azure, and Git
- Knowledge and experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab) and industry best practices for continuous performance testing.
- Must have experience in performance testing distributed systems.
- Strong understanding of performance testing concepts, including load testing, stress testing, and endurance testing.
- Proficient in analysis of performance data to identify root cause of bottlenecks and ability to recommend solutions.
- Experience in creating and communicating performance test reports and dashboards to stakeholders to show release readiness and highlight risk/impact to enable go/no-go release decisions.
- Deep knowledge of microservices, APIs, SQL and NoSQL DBs, containerization, and messaging technologies.
- Proficient in debugging and log analysis.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with multiple teams across the organization.
- Knowledge of modern software development practices such as Agile methodologies and CI/CD.
- Deep understanding and commitment to software engineering principles and processes (e.g., Lean, Agile, DevOps) and continuous improvement through measurement.
- Preferred degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent relevant experience
FIS is committed to providing its employees with an exciting career opportunity and competitive compensation. The pay range for this full-time position is $145,900.00 - $245,120.00 and reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position based on the posted role, level, and location. Within the range, actual individual starting pay is determined additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Any changes in work location will also impact actual individual starting pay. Please consult with your recruiter about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
