**Job Summary:**

The City of Worcester, MA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Works Director to lead the Department of Public Works. As a key member of the city's leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and supervision of public works programs and functions.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering, public administration, or a related field, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in public works management. You should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with city officials, employees, and the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and direct the activities of the Department of Public Works, including planning, organizing, and coordinating public works programs and functions.
  • Determine the administrative and management needs of the department and prepare plans and programs to meet those needs.
  • Confer with city officials to determine plans and policies for public works operations.
  • Maintain contact and work with the City Manager on planning extensions, alterations, and modifications to water, sewerage, and street systems.
  • Oversee new or revised work projects and needs, and develop annual budgets and long-term capital improvement programs for the city.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Business, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Ten (10) years of related work experience in civil engineering or other public works areas.
  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Business, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Fifteen (15) years of work experience in civil engineering or other public works areas.
  • Seven (7) years of supervisory experience.
  • P.E. License in the state of Massachusetts.

Salary Range: $113,411 - $256,385 annually, full-time, exempt, with an excellent benefits package.
