Correctional LPN

Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (Day/Night)

Location: Correctional Facility

Shift: 3x 12-Hour Shifts Per Week (6:00 AM - 6:30 PM or 6:00 PM - 6:30 AM)

Pay: $36.23/Hour (W-2)

Overview: As an LPN in a correctional facility, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) to assess patients' physical, psychological, and social dimensions. You will implement individualized treatment programs and administer medications as per Health Care Practitioner's orders. This role requires working independently in a secure facility and responding to emergency situations.

Responsibilities:

• Assess patients' physical, psychological, and social dimensions in the Health Care Unit and housing units.
• Help plan and implement individualized treatment programs in collaboration with RNs and other healthcare staff.
• Administer medications as per Health Care Practitioner's orders, including IV therapy (when certified).
• Count and document-controlled substances, syringes, and needles at the beginning of each shift.
• Respond to medical emergencies and codes following standard procedures.
• Perform diagnostic tests, such as obtaining body fluid specimens and EKGs, as directed.
• Assist in minor surgical procedures and implement therapeutic diet plans as ordered.
• Document patient encounters using the SOAP format and communicate relevant information to healthcare staff.
• Attend mandatory staff meetings and trainings.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

• Requires long periods of standing, walking, and working on a computer.
• Must lift and carry equipment weighing up to 35 pounds and push/pull up to 75 pounds.
• Requires the ability to lift patients in and out of beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
• Exposure to fluctuating temperatures, hazardous materials, and potential risks from inmates.
• The position operates in a correctional facility at varying security levels with potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

Requirements:

• Current, unencumbered LPN license in Arkansas.
• Minimum of one (1) year of LPN experience in a correctional setting.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Willingness to work in the physical conditions outlined above.
